Leadership Series
Across the months of July and August we hosted the epic Leadership Series across our Instagram with a series of live episodes once a week. The Leadership Series included a range of Black senior leaders – former and current. We were privileged to have Martha Da Costa, Mide Ola-Said, Danielle Lewis-Egonu and Claudenia Williams give us their time to share experiences of being Black and holding a senior position in a school.
We were also lucky enough to receive advice on making the journey towards senior leadership.
It was an important series as Black people do not hold as many positions as they should be on senior leadership teams.
The series exposed us to the ups and downs of being a Black Man or Woman in the leadership world. With conversations around being your authentic self, being the voice for all black people, imposter syndrome and wanting to walk away, the leadership series covered a whole host of issues which Black teachers can resonate with.
Some key things to take away from the series were:
· Gain experience and become the best version of yourself
· Know your why
· Don’t be afraid to leave
· Ask for opportunities
· Know your worth and Negotiate your money
· Find a school which strives to have your values
· Don’t be afraid to walk away.
The series was moving and with over 3000+ views collectively, it has made an impact on Black Teachers. If you missed it, all episodes are available to watch on our IGTV (@blackteachersconnect)
